Summit Cottage - Our Previous/Second House

We lived in our second house for 3 years. In that time we added 2 bedrooms, finished the upstairs, knocked down a wall to make a family room in the basement, landscaped the yards, put in a sprinkler system, replaced the windows, gutted and remodeled the kitchen, painted the exterior... and I'm sure a hundred little things too numerous to mention!

We bought this sweet 1940's home from the original owners! Hence the amount of updating, but it was nice only being the second owners! The town is so charming too - like stepping into a Norman Rockwell painting, main street parades and a strawberry festival every summer, fireworks in the summer after baseball home gameS, Santa parade every Christmas, movies in the park, a community pool, a little main street complete with quaint shops and cafes, and of course - friendly neighbors.

BEFORE - EXTERIOR

This is sort of a before shot... sort of a during too. I had already put in the boxwood border along the walkway, and added some sad little end-of-their-season hanging baskets. But notice the splotchy faded green paint, the original single paned windows, the old metal screen door... the list goes on.

The paint looks a little lighter in this picture, in reality its a little deeper and mossier.

AFTER - EXTERIOR BACKYARD

Our large yard was one big slope - so much that there was no good place for a table and chairs, or a kiddie pool, or a swing set. So we terraced the yard, leveled it, added a fence and a big stone wall that wrapped around our two fruit trees with stairs cascading down between them. This made for a great entrance to the lower yard, and a great "castle wall" for our girls to pretend on and around.
